Naval Heritage Museum

Located within the glamorous Porto Montenegro complex, the Naval Heritage Collection offers a fascinating glimpse into the site's former life as the Arsenal, a historic Austro-Hungarian and Yugoslav naval base. Housed in a beautifully restored 19th-century sawmill, the museum showcases over 300 artifacts that tell the story of Tivat's rich maritime and naval traditions. The undisputed highlight of the collection, however, stands just outside: a massive, 50-meter-long P-821 Hero submarine. This authentic Yugoslav attack submarine from the Cold War era is open to the public, offering a rare and incredible opportunity to climb inside and explore its cramped, technology-packed interior. Visitors can walk through the different compartments, from the torpedo room to the engine room, and imagine life for the 28-man crew. Alongside the Hero is a smaller P-912 Una-class midget submarine. The indoor exhibit features an array of naval equipment, ship models, and personal diaries that bring the history of the Arsenal to life. This museum provides a wonderful contrast to the modern luxury of the surrounding marina and is a must-visit for history buffs, families, and anyone looking for a truly unique and interactive experience.

  • The main attraction is the ability to go inside the P-821 Hero submarine. This is a unique experience you shouldn't miss.
  • The museum is part of the larger Porto Montenegro complex, so you can easily combine your visit with a walk along the marina to see the modern superyachts.
