If Kotor is the fortified and bustling queen of the Bay, Perast is its younger sister: a baroque, elegant, and serene princess who seems to float on the blue waters.
The Unmissable Attractions of Perast
The Two Islands: The Heart of Perast
Our Lady of the Rocks (Gospa od Škrpjela): This is the island you can (and should) visit. Legend says that sailors found an icon of the Virgin Mary on a rock and began sinking old ships and stones to create this artificial island, which now houses a charming church.
Island of St. George (Sveti Đorđe): The other island is natural and home to a 12th-century Benedictine monastery. This island is not open to visitors.
St. Nicholas' Bell Tower
In the center of the town, the 55-meter-high bell tower can be visited. The climb is steep, but the view from the top, encompassing the rooftops of Perast and the two islands, is absolutely fantastic.
